Before we set off on our big adventure, we got to spend an afternoon with Collin and big brother Andrew, exploring the outer limits of space and science, technological facts and science fiction, through the highly interactive Star Wars®: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis.
We built robots and
magnetic floating vehicles, tried to make a mechanical man walk using remote
controls, learned about bionic technologies being used today to help people with
disabilities, and saw lots of the costumes and props used in all the Star Wars® movies.
Collin’s
favorite part: a game where we chose bionic body enhancements to help us achieve a mission--for example, a mind
chip that gave us perfect total recall or bionic/x-ray eyes--then we found out
how the body parts helped and hindered us from achieving our objectives.
We drove
back to New Castle just in time for the whole family to go out to dinner together at a Japanese restaurant, then after some family
fun time, we got a good night’s sleep to prepare for the first official
day of Collin’s Ten-Year-Old Trip.
